The English Touring Opera Company are touring until the 25th May.
A translation of the Rossini classic and an excellent opera to see as your first, or with a younger audience member. Particularly strong baritone. The comedy is well played throughout, although the first half tends to loose the pace required to maintain our attention. The pronunciation throughout was impeccable, making the story accessible and entertaining. The small orchestra size is of course a limitation of a touring company, but I felt the gusto of Rossini’s orchestration was lost. For the small scale theatres the company are touring to, and the relatively low price of tickets, this is certainly an enjoyable evening’s entertainment.
